What I’m Reading

I’ve always loved to read.  When I was a kid I spent many summer days in my room devouring books while other kids were outside playing.  Ah…those were the days!  Now that I’m an adult, I don’t have nearly the time I’d like to have to read.  But now it’s winter and the long, cold evenings have set in, making it the perfect time to snuggle in front of the fire with a blanket, a cup of coffee, a dog or cat on your lap, and a good book.

I like many different kinds of books, and one of my favorite authors is Karen White.  I just started her new book, “The Guests on South Battery”.  This is book 5 in the Tradd Street series.

The first book in the series, “The House on Tradd Street” introduces us to Melanie Middleton, a real estate agent in Charleston, South Carolina, who has just inherited an old house from a virtual stranger.  She also inherited the ghosts who occupy the house.  The story follows Melanie as she reluctantly begins to restore the home and discovers the secrets of the house’s ghosts.

I was hooked on the series right from the start.  I love how it weaves present day with the past, bringing Charleston society to life.  The characters are are people you wouldn’t mind knowing yourself.  It’s almost impossible to put down!

Two warnings, though.  One, reading these books will make you desperately want to visit Charleston.  Two, be careful about reading in bed.  It was all too easy to tell myself I was going to read one more chapter, then discover I was still reading in the wee hours of the morning!
